Food for Thought

Yet, O Lord, You are our Father.  We are the clay, You are the Potter; we are ALL the work of Your hand.    --  Isaiah 64

He is the Potter and I am the Clay.  I love that analogy.  It takes all the guesswork and stress out of always having to know where I am headed and what my purpose is.  Our job is not to figure it out.  Our job is to follow Him. It has already been mapped out for me!

Let's look at this from another perspective.

Paul tells us that the Potter has the right to decide what He will make with His pile of clay.  He may decide that some lumps us will be molded into beautifully decorated candy dishes and vases for fresh cut, fragrant flowers, while others will need to be set aside to be molded into trash bins for the leftovers and dead flowers.  You see, all that God has created has a purpose.  Sometimes I feel that I don’t measure up to the extraordinary life that I had dreamed up for myself. I sometimes find myself caught up in a dangerous trap of envy over those around me with seemingly better lives, better ministries, better, better, better.  It wasn’t until I embraced my life, my calling to be the best mother, wife, and friend that I could be, that I truly understood what extraordinary really meant.  A trash can that keeps the trash in, and doesn’t pollute the things around it is a much more remarkable apparatus than a pretty vase that is empty.

Paul also tells us that it is the Potter who has the right to exercise His judgment, His power, His patience, and His delegation of riches, glory and mercy.  Be careful to not assume yourself to be a beautiful work of art and your counterpart to be a trash bin just because YOU think they are on a path to self destruction.  It is usually those who have seen the dirty side of life that rise up from the ashes with victories for God.  Those lives usually end up being some of the most powerful testimonies to God’s love, grace, and mercy.  At some point, we as Christians decided that it was our right… our business, to seek out people that we think we need to save, when in reality, we came from the same lump of clay that they did.

Try to take time to see the people around you as their Creator sees them.  Strive to let go and let the Potter mold you into something that can be used for His glory and wonderment!
